how much should he be feeding?

Baby is 10 days old tommorrow. I am really enjoying him and finding the breast feeding really rewarding. I wonder however how much i should be feeding him. I know they say "let baby end the feed" but my little one carries on and on - i think he uses me as a dummy and can be on 2.5 - 3 hours if i let him. Then again, sometimes I start leaking and then i feel bad that maybe he DOES want more. Has anyone any advice/experience of this?

Yes. My DS used to take both barrels - an average of 50 minutes each. By the time I'd finished it was nearly time to start again! My DH used to (kindly) intervene when I was weeping that I didn't have enough milk, and pop him down in his cot whereupon he would promptly go to sleep. If I tried that, he would get upset at coming off.

All I really remember was that those tiny gaps between feeds got gradually bigger, and so did his tummy and he was able to go longer between feeds. Remember they're growth spurting all the time in the first few weeks.

When you've had enough, don't martyr yourself, and keep an eye on his weekly weight which will give you the answers.

Keep on keeping on. Congratulations. Smile

How is his weight gain hostelgirl?
Are you getting about 5-6 heavy wet nappies and two yellow poos a day?
Are you letting him feed from one breast and then offering the second one?
Are you still seeing the mw and are you confident that his latch is good?

Sorry for all the questions btw. Smile

congratulations!
It sounds very normal. I found having a sling helped as sometimes Ds just wanted to be on me.

Get a few box sets. get some yummy healthyish snacks you can eat one handed and a big bottle of water.
Other things to try are feeding lying down. It means that you can have a bit of a rest while your feeding.
