I'm full of a cold and finding it difficult to cope with the symptoms as I'm already rather run down. DD is 7.5 mo - does anyone know will taking a low dose of sudafed or similar will affect my supply at this stage? I know a small amount will pass through to BM but I'm thinking that this is no bad thing because DD is snotty too.

www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/dibm/Cough-and-Cold-Remedies-October-2011.pdf

From that:

For colds and influenza two paracetamol four times a day or 400mg ibuprofen
three times a day with plenty of fluids and rest may be the most effective cure.
Other commercial remedies may help to relieve symptoms but the evidence of
effectiveness behind many products is poor.
DECONGESTANTS should be avoided by breastfeeding mothers as
they can dramatically reduce milk supply with just one or two doses
e.g. pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine.
Individual ingredients need to be checked as there are many products available
with multiple drugs each of which should be considered separately for safe
consumption during breastfeeding.

Ah, interesting that they consider that it may effect an established supply. Back to bed for me and DD and some paracetamol. Thanks Bartlet

Bfn is great. They also have a drugs in bm hotline. Might be worth asking if topical decongestants are okay? I use Otrivine in a spray whe I'm bunged up - think it was kellymom which said it was okay? Though mine is 18mths, so not quite as thirsty as a wee one. Smile

Hope you can get plenty of rest. You'll be brand new for Christmas!
