7 week old DD won't drink from bottle - help!

Hello all,

Can anyone help - my DD is nearly 7 weeks old and won't take any milk from a bottle. She is exclusively breastfeeding on demand and that is going fine. Since last week we have been trying to give her some milk from a bottle (DH and Granny, not me) but she has a complete fit and won't take it.

We are not overly worried about this yet, but we do want her to be able to take a bottle at some stage soon. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, our DD is 10 weeks old and we were in very similar situation a few weeks ago, tried a few types of bottles but made no difference. Then we tried feeding from a little cup, very messy and slow progress but she will now drink about 40 ml from DH - nowhere near a complete feed yet but with practice we are slowly increasing amounts. DD is much happier with a cup, and I don't mind skipping the bottle phase!

wheresmy there are some links here which might help. If you search the MN archives though there are lots of threads on bottle refusers Xmas Smile.

Hiya, i had exactly the same problem when my DS was a infant ( he is 4 now bless him) just keep trying, and maybe try the cheaper bottles. And maybe BreastFlow bottles as they are closest to the breasts frame.

God Bless

thanks for your feedback, we'll persevere!

Have we missed the window of opportunity? Is DD too old now to be trying to introduce the bottle?

DS never did drink from a bottle - grr - but whe we were trying TikTok advised me to introduce the bottle when he was alert and playful but not hungry, so maybe after a little 'snack' feed or between feeds. If they are hungry they just get distressed ebcause they don't know that the bottle will deal with thier need for milk, but if not hungry then they may play and suck in a non-anxious experiemental way and discover that the teat will deliver milk.
