Help - quick question

This may seem a really silly question, but is it okay to mix expressed breast milk and formula? I want to give my 3 month old a bottle for his last feed, but can only ever express a small amount of milk myself. Can I top it up with formula in the same bottle to make a decent feed?

Well, I do - I did with my son (now 20 months) and I do with my daughter (7 weeks)

Mixing them is fine.

If you want to improve how much you get when you express, there are lots of ideas about - I think there's even an expressing thread here, with lots of ideas.

Apparently it's better to give EBM and formula at separate feeds (the 'active ingredients' in BM work better then). I was told this by a bf counsellor when I was mixed feeding myself. You could collect enough EBM to make up a feed over a few expressing sessions.

You shouldn't mix the two in one bottle.

I used to save each small amount of expressed milk in the freezer and then get a few out at a time to fill one bottle when i needed it ( e.g. when i was working and dd being looked after by someone else).

Maybe give yourself a week to start 'collecting' in the freezer before you start giving the bottles so you get a head start.
