There's so much great info shared on here every day, but for you what was your key bit of info or support? Or just something that worked for you?

A good latch is essential. I don't think that I would have had such a good breastfeeding experience without Mumsnet.

I guess what I learned was ... it doesn't have to hurt and if it does there's something wrong.

How to diagnose a blocked duct

DonInKillerHeels · 09/12/2011 22:12

and that this - "it doesn't have to hurt and if it does there's something wrong" - isn't true.

DonInKillerHeels · 09/12/2011 22:12

necessarily.

Tongue-tie is more common than HVs would have you believe.

Refusal to latch can be sorted.

Feeding constantly for about 4hrs is normal and it too will pass.

Co-sleeping can be a good (and safe) thing.

Very few women don't have enough milk.

Let the baby lead with regards feeding habits/routines.

Mumsnet rocks for bf support and it should be recommended reading for all women considering bfing. Smile

Feeding toddlers is normal.

What to do about a blocked duct.

Feeding to sleep and co-sleeping are Good Things if they work for you.

Night waking isn't necessarily anything to do with bf'ing.

Not to follow GF's advice on bf'ing... Wink

That a baby sucking for comfort isn't "using you as a dummy" - it's the other way around...

All of the above. Apart from being the friend of GP daughter.

I think that nearly everything I know about breast feeding came from here, I am so grateful for all of the fantastic advice people give.

Sciencegeekmum · 10/12/2011 02:49

It's not a problem if your baby wants to bf more often than once every two hours - it's just adjusting your supply.

That very often (but not always) top ups with formula are unnecessary.

That the hvs and midwives aren't always very well informed and bring their own agenda to the table (or breast!)

Just keep going!

These videos of good vs poor suckling really helped me. www.breastfeedinginc.ca/content.php?pagename=videos
I can't remember who pointed them out to me but BIG BIG THANK YOU!

LaCiccolina · 11/12/2011 16:40

Its normal. No matter what the question.

New borns feed ALL the time.

Its not always a feed, could be a drink, dry mouth, 6 course dinner / No feed is ever the same...

Growth spurts are pants

Its hard but the weight loss is worth it! Got better tum now than before and am 2 stone lighter. All did was bf!! (And tried not to eat loads of shit, ate some shit, but not lots of it.)

Its harder than you expect but once past first few weeks gets easier and easier....then all the other questions start.... :0)
