Do a lot of people buy 'proper' nursing clothing?

I'm just curious, I've just been browsing on the seraphine website at their nursing gear (bored) and I just wondered if people actually bothered with them?

I bought a few nursing vest tops for night time, but most of the time went with the two top approach which worked fine for the most part. I found primark vest tops fab for this btw.

By the nursing tops, I mean specific t-shirts, jumpers etc.

I vary which top goes up or down depending on what I'm wearing. If wearing a normal/high neckline top then the vest goes down and the top goes up. If wearing a jumper or dress with a low v-neck or something then the vest goes up and the jumper stays down.

Oh I never got the hang of the two layer system... I'm very un coordinated though. I bought boob label tops which are plain colours, although not necessarily stylish. Love them for the easy access and discreet feeding, but must admit after b f ing 2 children I am very keen to get back to my old wardrobe of non-maternity clothing!

I fed mine for a year each so did buy some nursing tops. Plenty are overpriced, not particularly practical, but I found one style at H&M that were cheap (£12.99 ish), practical, easy to wash etc. I bought 5 of them and lived in them for 2 years. They looked nice as well. However, I was glad to chuck them out (to the charity shop) and wear whatever I wanted.

I stumbled across this website while looking for something to wear for a wedding- they list clothes from various different retailers that while not necessarily designed for breastfeeding, are suitable (and possibly more stylish than some of the 'proper' nursing clothes found elsewhere.)

I bought one top from mama feelsgood and I luuuurve it, for a long time it was the first thing I wore out of the wash for the longest time. Funky young tee designs and a system a bit like the two layer up/down.

Bad syntax. iPhone typing whilst nursing toddler not easy!

I found most of H&M's normal tops seemed to work well for feeding, a lot of them have buttons halfway or all the way down which are real and not decorational.

nursing bras
h&m nursing vest tops
layers!

a couple of the proper nursing tops i just couldn't work - the openings have to be just the right size/angle/height. it was easier just to wear layers of normal clothes and a bump band to cover my tummy.

I hated nursing tops. One gave me mastits, another had a 'discreet ' arrangement which left me sat with one nipple poking out of some thin white fabric while I faffed about with various hooks and drapery before I could get DS there to start feeding. It looked far more rude than if I had displayed my whole breast.

I had some, but I probably won't have any second time around. Some have clearly been designed by people who've never breastfed/have a tenuous grasp of female anatomy.

The list of angry letters I plan to write some day includes one to Mothercare about those utterly stupid tops where the boob hole is located in the side seam. Last time I checked, most women's breasts were in the front, not located underneath their armpits.

TheProvincialLady · 11/12/2011 10:36

...at least when they start breastfeedingGrin

I had a couple of t-shirts and drop cup vest tops from h&m which I used loads in the early days. But I soon got bored of them, and just wear a normal top now, sometimes with a vest top too if it's chilly. But I don't really care who sees my side/tummy...
