Breastmilk becoming less filling?

From 6 weeks my bf DD had been able to consistently sleep for a 6-7 hour stretch at night. She's now 14 weeks & for the past 2 weeks every night has been waking every 3 hours. She's definitely waking for food, as she'll feed for about 30 mins before dropping off to sleep again.

She feeds well in the day, and doesn't seem hungrier than usual during the daytime.

Could it be that my milk isn't as nutritious for some reason?

My money's on the 12 week growth spurt. It's normal and she's telling your body to ramp up supply.

Cake, milk remains nutritionally stable and does not vary in terms of quality between women or over time - nature has got that sorted :) It's irrelevant what you eat, drink or do or don't do....your milk continues regardless.

What your baby was doing - sleeping 6-7 hours at a stretch when still young - was unusual and it's not surprising it has not lasted. She may be waking now because she needs more milk in order to grow well, and/or because it is developmentally normal for a baby of this age to wake a few times in the night and need the human contact and love and breastmilk to settle back to sleep.

Meeting her needs by feeding her is absolutely fine and she may change her night time behaviour anyway, back to what it was.

Hope this helps :)
