i have a seven week old girl and i am trying to figure out if she has colic or not. Im not sure whether it is colic as i suffer from colic still and ibs and chrones disease run in my family unfortunately. what is a colic cry like? when she cries and i cant pacify her she usually won't feed either and kicks her legs around frantically. is that a typical sign of colic?

It could be aim but babies cry for so many reasons, she could just be overtired. Is it happening at a particular time? Is feeding and winding etc going ok?

when i wind her she usually spits up a bit but nothing out of the ordinary. i do use shields when i feed her but i have flat nipples and when i try to get her to feed off the nipple she struggles so much that it is easier to use the shields as it means less stress for both of us. the times i use bottles to feed her they are anti colic bottles and she settles so much better with the bottles. it always seems to be around 9pm that it starts.

aimz it is pretty normal to have unsettled evenings with a bf baby and nothing really to worry about. There is some information here on fussy evenings with some tips on how to deal with it too.

It does go though eventually, although I know it can be tough at the time. My DS was very much like you are describing and it can be hard not to think that there is something else wrong. At about 4 months it just stopped though.

yeah currently tonight i am just letting her nurse. i have actually got her feeding between crying. when it gets to the evening i lie down and nurse so she relaxes more and hopefully goes to sleep. its just when it starts i feel terrible as i check her for everything that could possibly be wrong but i have been told not to beat myself up about it as some babies just cry

Some babies do just cry. I think you are doing everything right though by making her more relaxed and feeding when she wants to. If she is fed and hasn't had a poo there is no need to panic if she does cry. Know it can be very upsetting but the more you panic the more she will pick up on that and maybe cry more.

If she is crying and won't feed, is there someone else who could try to calm her for a while?

yeah there is her dad he tries but nothing. its just a period at night and occasionally late afternoon where she cries.
