Pea sized lump

DD is 5 days old. I've ended up having to express due to some problems dd has had. I've noticed a pea sized lump on one breast just where the edge of the pump sits. Is this just a milk duct?

Hecubas what does your MW say about it? Has she checked it out?

shelley72 · 08/12/2011 08:19

have you tried massaging the lump whilst you are feeding / expressing? im sure i was told to use a wide tooth comb and brush down towards the nipple. if your midwife is still around (at 5 days they probably are), i would ask them, just to reassure you. i am not qualified in such things, just a mummy who has had similar issues!

Have a read of this too. Does it sound similar to what you are experiencing?

Bartimaeus · 08/12/2011 08:30

I'd ask someone who can see it but I've had several lumps, usually when my breasts are very full with milk (which I imagine at 5 days they are!) and it usually goes by itself when Ds feeds.

Once it took over 24 hours and lots of feeding on that side for it to go though. Very painful Sad

Seeing the MW today, hoping to ask her about it. I am quite engorged atm.

Are you getting any RL support from somewhere as well as your MW Hecubas? Is there a local BFC you could talk to as well as the MW or a local Bfing Support Group?

Hecubasdaughter · 08/12/2011 20:12

Just DH really and supportive as he is he is no expert.

MW visit today was cancelled due to the stormy weather.

Glad that your DH is supportive. Has the MW rescheduled? If she's not coming until next week I'd ring a local Bfing Counsellor, one of the helplines or go to a Bfing Support Group if there is one running tomorrow. Its best if someone who knows about bfing has a look at it Smile.

Hecubasdaughter · 08/12/2011 20:26

She's hopefully coming tomorrow weather permitting.

Oh good. If she does cancel ask her if there is a BFC locally who you could talk to. If you do develop any signs of mastitis though please go straight to your GP.

Know that DH probably thinks he knows a lot about your boobs but sometimes you need someone with the feeding experience too! Xmas Grin.
