Dropping BFswhen starting to wean

I'm in a bit of a muddle about what I'm doing with DD2, who's 6.5 months. We started weaning at 25 weeks, which is going well, and she's now on 3 meals a day. She is EBF. I'm not sure what I'm doing with her milk feeds or how many or which ones to drop. The rough usual pattern is:

First thing in the morning - BF
Breakfast - solids
Mid-morning - BF maybe if I can remember and if it fits in with what we're doing with DD2
Lunch - solids
Mid-afternoon - BF usually but sometimes I forget Blush
Teatime - solids
Bedtime - BF
Nighttime - at least one BF, maybe two.

Is that too much BF-ing? Or just right? If I tried to give her more BF in the daytime, would she be less likely to wake up at night for them ? Or would that put her off her solids? The guidelines say that a 6 month old baby needs about a pint of milk, so I reckon each BF is about 4oz (that's what I get when I express), so that would equate to about 4 BF a day. But that's all a bit approximate.

She doesn't really demand to be fed (well, apart from in the middle of the night! Grin), although when I offer her the breast at the times above she does take it, so I feel that I can't just follow her lead. I'm feeling a bit clueless even though DD1 was EBF until 12 months! Any ideas gratefully received!

I'm doing basically the same as you with my 8mo. I would try to keep the milk feeds during the day going as long as possible. In case she wants to make up for it through the night!

Don't worry about milk getting in the way of solids. They will drop the milk when they are ready. Especially since you have an older one. She will want to copy the older, and have snacks instead of milk, when she becomes more aware.

i wouldn't drop any. just follow her lead.
when she is ready to drop feeds she will

Sounds good, they still need the majority of the nutrian from milk untill 12months so you wouldn't really be looking to drop any more feeds untill then.

There is some good info hear on soldis www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/solids-how.html

Sounds about right to me, and pretty much what my DD was doing at that age (including the nights).

BTW she was more inclined to drop the mid morning and mid afternoon feeds before the night time ones... I tried to encourage her to do it the other way round but it didn't really work unfortunately... :)

My DD dropped those day time feeds around 9/10mo so we were left with early morning feed, bedtime feed, and middle of the night feed, which eventually went at around 11mo (joy of joys!). Around 1yr she dropped bed time feed, so we are just on early morning now (14mo).
