Ok why are you cutting down?

TangerinePuppet · 21/11/2011 18:50

Erm, sorry to tell you but my 22 month old has at least 2 and will angle for 4 or 5 if she can get them based on how withered I'm feeling on that day.

11 months seems a little young to be cutting down to just one feed, unless she is also having formula of course!

Iggly · 21/11/2011 18:52

11 months seems a bit young for only one feed a day, unless you're supplementing and gradually winding down?

Do you feed her on demand?

zimm · 21/11/2011 19:10

OP - is this because you are returning to work? I tried to cut my DD down to morning and evening for same reason - but now she has morning evening on work days and about ten zillion feeds on other days..it's fine...

yellowflowers · 21/11/2011 20:27

Ah sorry should have said, she is and has always been mix fed

It's quite common for babies who aren't ready to lose the comfort of the breast to really go for it if they feel it's being taken away.

If you are ready to stop and you really are sure it's the right thing for you then you CAN force the issue. It may be quite traumatic for you both though :(

An alternative might be "don't offer, don't refuse" which can lead them to wean more gently because they feel more in control.

Saying that, at 11 months, it's very early for a baby to self wean so if you have to stop then while you could try DODR you might not find it to be successful.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks. I am happy to carry on at night and morning but at the moment she's trying to up it from that which we've been doing for past few months to more.

Could it be that she's teething, or something else is bothering her, that she needs that extra comfort all of a sudden, do you think?

Singleandproud · 21/11/2011 22:35

She may well be teething as probably got lots of teeth to come and just want it for comfort or be ready for a growth spurt.
