Green poos and grizzly evenings

My DD is 8weeks and ebf. She is feeding well... A bit too well in the evenings when she just wants the boob from about 6pm till midnight, when she finally drops off till about 6am. Obviously this is a good chunk of sleep at night but I am worried she might not be getting enough milk as she is so hard to settle in the evenings. She has also been doing a lot of green poos over the last few weeks, we've had two today but a korma coloured one in between. She is putting on weight, about half a pound a week. Is there anything I could do to stop the green poos and help her settle in the evenings?

Hello, Congratulations on your baby !! :)

Its called cluster feeding and she is about to hit a growth spurt:) Don't worry! Its completely normal for BF babies to stock up on milk in the evening and as long as a baby is healthy looking and gaining weight I use the "never wake a sleeping baby" rule!

I can only suggest that you don't try to settle her to bed in the evenings :) she is supposed to feed until she is stuffed so that she can catch up on her sleep in a block.

If it's her feeding that is unsettled then I would suggest taking her off after the 1st let down and wind her, often the "gulping" to catch up with the letdown causes the baby to swallow some air and then they fuss and don't feed as they should. So, feed, wind, carry on feeding.

As for green poo it's caused by too much foremilk, try to leave her on the same side for longer if possible, you don't need to use both sides each feed, if she finishes and you wind her and she wants more you can put her back on that side so she gets more hind milk, after a while you can do the poke test to see how full you still are on each side ( its far easier than the reminder bracelet thingy or safetypin in the bra strap Wink) You are doing fab btw!

Thanks Queen! I actually never wind her during a feed, only after, so will give that a go and see if the greenness goes. And I guess she is just a growing girl so I'd better get used to her feeding frenzies!
