Excessive pooing... Does it mean I'm over feeding??

dd is 12 weeks old and poos SO much!
Yesterday she did 11 poos (I counted!) and she's done 2 this morning already. Proper full nappies that you need to change straight away or it spills out the back/sides
She also feeds a lot (in the day, she mostly sleeps all night) and is very big (at top of charts in red book)

Could I be over feeding her? I though bf babies pood every few days not 10 ish times every day!!!
She does get quite windy too, farts a lot!

Well they can poo every few days or they can poo as much as your DD. Both are normal and so is everything inbetween.

Don't worry at all, you simply can't overfeed a bf baby.

AGree with Julie's that varies massivlely. From what I remember with dd - almost every nappy was a poo til she was weaned.

Catsu as far as I can remember both my dd and ds were also prolific pooers! I don't think you can really overfeed a breast fed baby. Your dd is growing well, and sleeps all night which is a bonus! Grin

Ds is 7 months old now and he only poos once-twice daily but has one bottle of formula and also 3 meals. I think the amount of poo produced gradually settled down by about 4-5 months old. You will find some info on the internet about foremilk and hindmilk and if a baby feeds too frequently and for short periods of time they may not be getting enough hindmilk, so end up having lots of runny, greenish, poo's. I am not sure if I am really convinced by this as I have also read stuff that says not to worry at all about whether baby is getting enough hindmilk or whether the notion of foremilk and hindmilk is a load of old rubbish!

it sound to me like you are doing a fantastic job and have a healthy baby. I am sure someone else with better advice will be along soon too. [snile]
