Having a drink or 3, how long not to feed 9wk dd

so not to sound like a lush but it's my bday this weekend and I'd like a few drinks, we're meeting in a bar before dinner and then going for a cocktail afterwards so I was thinking realistically I'll probably have 2 glasses of wine and a cocktail. Dd happily takes a bottle and I've plenty of expresed milk so if I have three drinks how long do I not directly feed her, and do I have to express the milk I've made after a drink and throw it away?

I normally wait one hour per unit. And 1-2 units is fine to breastfeed.

So it would depend on the size of the wine glass (bucket?!) and strength of cocktail...

Trying to remember why?

The alcohol is processed through your milk as it is your blood.

That said, there ain't much sensible guidance out there and I'm not too strict.

waits for someone more knowledgable to come along and tell me I'm wrong

Two units of alcohol (so a large glass of wine) is out of your milk in three hours. No need to pump and dump - the booze isn't stored in your milk but moves in and out of it in the same way as it does in blood. Personally I have a small glass at weekends and feed straight after if necessary, but usually DS is asleep for hours afterwards so it's not an issue. If you have 2 small glasses of wine that's 2 units, then a cocktail is probably another 2? So that's 6 hours for it to be out of your milk, and obviously it will be decreasing all the time. Have your drinks as soon as you get out then enjoy the heady glow and stick to soft ones, and you'll be fine. V jealous you can leave your baby...DS wouldn't touch a bottle til he was 6 months!

i heard all the don't pump n dump stuff.... but still did it because when I pumped even hours later or the next morning (if it was a late un with a few drinks) my milk was a grim grey/green tint rather than its normal nice creamey milkey colour.

I'm sure a lot of it does get reabsorbed, but no matter how long I left it the first pump always looked different no matter how long I left it, then it was back to normal after that

Thanks all, I'm glad that I might not have to pump and dump, thanks for the headsup grumble I'll keep an eye out for colour. Lurch I got in a real mess with bf early on but was dertermined to stick with it so had to express and give her a bottle earlier than everyone normally recommends but it's worked out great because she'll happily have a bottle now.

Now just need to find something to wear :)
