Hi,

Yet again i'm on here asking more questions! Having some trouble with DS2 and feeding (he is 6 weeks), his weight gain is ok, 16.5 ounces over 3 weeks so not fantastic but ok.

Feeds during the night (tends to be only 1) and morning go well, but from 4pm onwards he struggles to feed, will feed for a few minutes pull off, scream and then be inconsolable. HV suggested maybe a dip in my supply, is that possible at one specific time of day?

I know lots of babies fuss in the evening but this is manic rooting but little feeding. I expressed after 4pm feed yesterday and got 2oz which i then fed him and he settled. I have been switch nursing to boost supply, would expressing after help too? He tends to sleep 9pm-3am and will not be woken to feed at 11pm, thought maybe expressing and feeding him a expressed bottle might be easier for him when sleepy, and that way i'm upping my supply too?

Any thoughts?

I found all 3 of mine went through a phase from about 6-12 weeks of being very difficult in the late afternoon / early evening, and would want to feed continuously or just be very angry.

It could just be that phase your boy is going through, in which case you'll just have to hope it passes soon enough.

Alternatively, there's every possibility supply is low by that time of day. I imagine you're tired by then, esp if you have a toddler (just guessing, as you say DS2) to look after too. I imagine you know all this, but sometimes I don't think it hurts to be reminded! You need to make sure you're looking after yourself too. Have you had enough to eat and drink during the day? Have you managed to rest at all? Your body is still recovering from making and delivering a baby, as well as BFing it.

Finally, and although I hate myself for saying it (and will no doubt get flamed) you could try a dummy at these times?

Sounds like you're doing ok though. 9pm - 3am is pretty good going for 6w!

Thanks whimsicalname, I do indeed have a lively 3 years old monster boy at home too! I wonder if i do rush around a bit too much. He does have a dummy which he tends to have for 5mins as he falls to sleeo then spits it out.

I will try to rest up a bit more (eating enough does not seem to be a problem Blush)

Thanks

Aah, I have 3 lovely monsters boys.

I would recommend curling up on the sofa after lunch, you with a cup of tea, and a bottle of water, and at least one bar of choc, DS with his equivalent and watching a dvd while you MN
