washable breast pads and nursing bra fittings

Just wondering what your recommendations were - used avent last time but found they weren't absorbant enough at night time and they seem to be more expensive than move as you only get 6 in a pack. I hate disposable ones, so bloody uncomfortable

I've been given a voucher from some lovely friends for hotmilk underwear, can't remember when I got fitted last time - is it safe to get fitted now (38.5weeks pregnant) or wait til baby's born? They cost a fortune so want to make sure I get the rest size to last breastfeeding

Now is a good time, your bump should have dropped a bit (hopefully).
A good fit will be snug in the band/back and with a bit of spare room in the cup.
Hotmilk are fab, very comfy Smile

thanks - bump hasn't dropped yet though so maybe I should wait on it. I have a few nursing bras leftover from last time that could get me through til I make it down to the shop for bra fitting, but my boobs are waaaaaay bigger this time round!!!

I'd wait until your milk has come in, and probably 1-2 weeks after that. I wasn't back to my pregnancy size until DD is 5-6mo. And I got really really large for a couple of weeks after my milk came in. The lovely lady at mothercare suggested I wear their sleep nursing bras for those two weeks. And she's right. I'm still using them at night now, so it's money well spent.

I read on here that washable breast pads can ruin your washing machine so just remember to put them in one of those zip net bags. No advice on the other stuff though.

yeah I've got the bags from last time too - our washing machine was fine. I just can't stand the disposable one

I used Little Lamb bamboo breast pads last time and they were so nice and soft and did a good job on my very leaky boobs! You might want to double up at night for safety. Just give them a couple of washes first as otherwise they can shed a bit. You have to pay attention to which way round you put them in though. They aren't any thicker than most disposable pads either. I got mine from BabyBots, I know she stocks some other similar ones now but with funky patterns if that floats your boat!

I know what you mean about the disposable ones, I was fine with them for a while (only Sainsbo's own though, hated all others) then they suddenly started annoying the hell out of me, all itchy!
