Too much milk after growth spurt.

DS is 6 weeks and had a growth spurt over the last few days. this is the first one that I've noticed a significant increase in feeding. He's fed BF on demand and co-sleeps I occasionally express for a bottle later that day (4 1/2ish oz) but he wont drink defrosted milk. After each feed I've noticed I've got alot of milk left, this was during the growth spurt, milk dripping out.

Normally I never have this, I don't need pads, never feel full or uncomfortable before or after feeds. For DS or when I was feeding DD1 (for 8 months) or DD2 (for 1 year).

Now DS has finished his feeding marathon and returned to 3ish hour feeds. I've been so uncomfortable if he goes more than 1 1/2 hours without feeding, End up leaking everywhere, feeling FULL and end up feeding DS without him asking, he feeds for a while which helps until his proper normal feed about 1 1/2 hours later.

I know feeding him won't help my body realise he doesn't want that much and I feel guilty getting him to feed for my benefit. But expressing is more discomfort while Im so full.

So should I continue feeding as I/He needs and hopefully things will work itself out or Feed when he wants only and just cope with the leaking/discomfort.

There are three principles of demand feeding:

Feed whenever the baby wants
Feed for as long as the baby
Feed whenever the mother wants

You are doing all the right things. So long as you are both happy with things then carry on just as you are, listen to your baby, he'll let you know if things aren't right for him. Smile

You could try just hand expressing a little to easy the discofort untill things setal down again.

It takes approximately 3 days for your baby to increase the supply they need and another for it to reduce back again after they have finished so just hang in there it will probably sort itself out.

You could express your milk and donate it to a hospital milk bank I'm sure they will be thrilled with your donation.
