sharp dart of pain

DD is 8 weeks and all going well so far.

Just last night I started getting darts of sharp pain from nipple deep into breast. What could that be? Thrush? I finished a few rounds of heavy duty anti-b's about 3 weeks ago, if it's relevant.

I was just going to say it could be thrush. Me and DS2 (nearly 6 weeks) have had it recently and I had the exact same needle type pain. Have you checked DDs mouth and your nipples? I found my nipples went very very pink, were very tender, had cracked a little and I had little white spot type things near the base of the nipple

How would you know thrush in the baby's mouth?

How do I treat it, if it is thrush?

the tongue usually has a bit of a white coating on it, might look like its a bit of milk lingering or look at the roof / sides of the mouth to see if you can see any little white spots. Sometimes it might cause the baby to not feed properly (it did with mine thats how I knew it was definitely thrush) as it can be uncomfortable for them, but not all of the time.

I was given Nystan suspension for DS but its shit, to work they have to hold it in their mouth for a minute or so (impossible for a 5 week old). Doc refused to prescribe anything else or acknowledge that I even have it so I decided to self treat with (after checking its ok) Daktarin oral gel. Ive been using a smidge in DSs mouth and putting it on my NIPPLE NIPPLE NIPPLES aswell and touch wood its pretty much gone

Id defo check with your doc though as I suppose what I have done is a bit reckless but just felt I wasnt being listend to by the doc and nearly gave up BF because of the pain

Although I agree to check it out, it could just be painful let down - I think I started to get this around 7 weeks - although I had been pain free before hand. If so, mine has calmed a lot now at 16 weeks so it's only painful when I'm really full.
