Hi I know im not a first time mum but I would really like some advice. I have a liitle boy who is 3 and was breastfed for a few weeks as unfortunately I just couldnt get on with it. I have now got a daughter who is 11 weeks and im breastfeeding her. We were getting on great she was going to sleep at around 10pm and waking around 4.30- 6.30 am which was fantastic. Then last week I had her weighed and the Hv said although she was gaining weight it wasnt as much as she would of have liked! I told her how long she was sleeping at night and she said perhaps I should wake her!!!! Im not going to do that because I thought you should never wake a sleeping baby and also I think she will wake when she is hungry. Anyway now the last few nights she has been waking every couple of hours for a feed and Im exhausted as I still have my little boy to look after during the day. Is this normal to wake like this when breastfeeding especially as she seemed to be getting into a sort of routine or am I doing something wrong? Any advice would really be appriciated?

Jewel it can be normal and no I don't think you are doing anything wrong.

It was wrong of your HV to make you doubt yourself without offering any advice. How much did she gain and did the HV say why she was unhappy? There is some information here on weight gain at this age.

Have you tried feeding her more often during the day and this can sometimes help with weight gain. Is there a bfing support group you could go to and talk it through there?

As for the sleep, know it is hard. Does your DS go to pre-school or is there anyone who could have him for a couple of hours to give you a break? There is a great article here on sleep which may help to.
