Too much milk for first feed = puking?

I have a 10 week old bf baby who has already doubled in weight since birth so I'm not at all concerned about him, though I have given up dairy as he has always been sicky and i reckon he has mild reflux so I am seeing if it will help. He is a good breast feeder, enjoys it and has always glugged it down.

However, sometimes, in the mornings when I first feed him (lying down) he will feed happily and sleepily for ages while we drift off again together and then suddenly out of nowhere violently sicks it ALL back up again all over me, himself, the sheets and everything unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity. He's quite happy after this and usually smiles at me for a bit then goes back to sleep, with another feed fairly soon after.

He usually sleeps for 6/7 hours straight at night so could it be that he is just taking in too much for him to cope with on an empty stomach?

I just wondered if this has happened to anyone else?

Hi ArlingtonStringham,
It did happen to me with my son and he had reflux, which apparently is unusual for breastfed babies. I used to give my son a break in the middle of the first feed for everything to settle. Also I found that winding him used to make him throw it all up. Apparently at that age they need to feed between midnight and 4am when your prolactin is highest (I think that's why) as it's the most satisfying milk, so he might be uber hungary if he's not doing that. The other place you could call is the NCT breastfeeding line they might have some info for you they were really helpful for me.
