So beautiful DD is 13 days old. DS is 23 months old and still feeding.

He fed all the way through pregnancy with not much there and so is absolutely delighted with the new abundance Grin There is plenty of milk available now.

Birth was fantastic. DD was born 17 minutes after arrival at the hospital. Gas and air only, with a physiological 3rd stage and fed well within the first 30 minutes of birth. It was amazing.

Milk came in at the ends of day 2. Nappies yellow by the end of day 3.

No weightless at day five, in fact we had 10 grams weight gain.

Objectively DD seems fine. Mostly.

Content. Settles nicely, has a few periods of quiet alertness a day, requests feeding about every 1.5-2hrs during the day and every 2-3hrs at night, hardly ever cries though. Has good colour. Has grown (according to my mother) has plenty of soaking wet nappies a day (8 or more) BUT only poos twice a day. They are lovely big, mustard yellow with curds poos, but still only 2 a day. She is entirely unlike her brother who was a monster, and still can be

Her latch isn't fantastic. She has a upper labial tie (and I wonder about posterior tt - but she does have good mobility of her tongue). It doesn't really hurt me but I have rhino nipples and she seems to be swallowing well but does take in air. I am using the exaggerated latch technique to get her on nicely and breast compressions at the end of the feed to encourage her to stay on longer and get all the 'hind milk'

We co-sleep and I feed her before she cries in the night, I baby wear and hardly put her down so that I can respond to each nd every feeding cue.

My engorgement has died down nicely but I am still very confident that there is plenty of milk there.

MW was meant to come today but due to a misunderstanding she missed me so is coming tomorrow. She said not to worry too much if she doesn't poo that much as long as everything else seems fine. But I can't help it.

DS feeds 5/6 times a day (I cut him short mostly) but he gulps down gallons of milk, has put on weight and is now on a predominantly breast milk diet. (we offer him meals but he seems to only want to eat green veg and fruit Hmm)

Should I be worried? What else can I do?

?????

Not sure why you are worried, MBJ. I can only think you have misunderstood what 'normal' pooing is....and 2 large yellow poos a day is just fine.

What were you thinking was needed?

Many babies in the first week from about day 4 have three or more but after the first week this becomes less of a 'sign' in a healthy, term baby.

Counting poos is useful in the first week or so, when we are looking for signs that all is well.

In a baby up to and beyond birthweight on day 5, feeding well and showing to the whole world she is fine in all the other respects, it's daft (sorry!) to count poos and worry there are 'only' 2 and not 3 :)

Hope this is helpful :)

Thank you. You know, as my first pooed 8 times a day, and never settled (massively high needs) and my second is the opposite, and i am are a little fragile post birth, I have turned into a nutter Grin

Will do my utmost to stop worrying.

As I have said before on mumsnet, this isn't a feeding issue, it's a confidence issue :) :)

Enjoy your little DD and r...e....l...a....x :)

If I was listening to a mum who told me this (peer supporter), I would say exactly the same thing Smile.

Can I just say YOU ARE DOING A BRILLIANT JOB!!! relax and take some credit for giving them both what they need. Your DS is probably taking a bigger share than he needs while he gets used to this new life with a sister, maybe some other treats would encourage him to back off a bit? Its very early days though, and your body is designed to cope with two kids, so dont worry!!!
Well done!!!Grin Make sure someone is looking after you too... you need plenty of spoiling!!Brew Biscuit.

Thanks.

Hmmmm......greengoose, she does not need to be concerned about her DS taking a bigger share than he needs, he does not need to back off.

Don't make her start worrying again!!!

The baby is fine FINE fine :)

greengoose · 08/11/2011 18:25

Sorry tictok, I didnt mean a bigger share FROM DD, I just meant more that he needs if she wanted him to cut down IYSWIM. Of course there is plenty to go round, I just know that it can be exhausting when a toddler ups their feeds when they have been backing off a bit......especially when feeding two.
Of course OP shouldnt worry...... absolutely not my intention, sorry.

Aw, do you know what?

When ds2 was born, he latched beautifully from the word go, grew visibly in front of my eyes, regained birthweight by day 6 etc etc.

And despite all this, as well as EVERYTHING I have learned about breastfeeding, I STILL WORRIED that he wasn't getting enough milk!

Crazy, isn't it!

Sounds like you are doing really well Smile

TheRealMBJ · 08/11/2011 18:36

I understood it as you meant it greengoose

I think it is a symptom of our society mawbroon

And in case twinklegreen or pesephone reads this - I know, I know. Can't help but worry - I should come with a 'Nutcase Alert' sticker Grin

I must say i enjoyed your description of your son's new delight at his bf diet! How handy for engorgement too- all sounds fine, as you already know. It's all too easy to stress though, I'm only too aware...

harverina · 09/11/2011 20:10

Rmj it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job, what an inspirational story. Well done and try not to worry! I have a cheek though...I worried constantly! [Smile]
