Baby in pain with poos

My DS is 7 weeks and for the last week has only been pooing once every 3 days. I know that that can be normal but it seems to only be the one poo which doesn't seem enough and he gets to be in real pain at night. Have had 3 hours of screaming where nothing will calm him, he is too distressed to even feed (is ebf) Have tried baths, massage, bycicle legs, jigging etc. He does calm and feed in the end but will only shallow sleep and wakes up crying. Eventually almost passes out fr a couple of hours during the next morning. He seems better in the day and has Coleif with feeds. Any suggestions on helping with pain and is it normal to be in pain as I thought ebf babies didn't get constipated (although poos are quite runny and yellow)

Hi. Sorry you and your baby are going through this - it sounds like colic, and it is absolutely horrible.

The only thing that worked for my baby was a homeopathic remedy which really seemed to do the trick. I am a bit sceptical about these things, but I ran out at one point, and the colic immediately returned - I am now converted!

Hope you find something that works - and it was true for us when they say it disappears overnight at around 3 months.

When at night? I found colic (if its that) often came on from 6pm through to anywhere up to 10pm. Very sharp pained cries which you can't stop. Often started on cue with DH coming home from work (Deep joy). We used infacol, you have to use the stuff for a few days solid though for it to build up and work so don't give up if it doesn't work at first. And don't stop once started as its probably not disappeared its just the stuff working....

At the time it felt like it went on forever. In hindsight it was about 8-10wks from week 6. That might sound horrendous from your point now. We gave up trying to put dd in a cot and kept her with us in the lounge in the car seat being rocked. Only way to have some semblance of an evening without ending up shouting at each other too.... (I was bf only)

You can use gripe water which gave her lovely minty breath but I wasn't sure worked - others swear by it. All trial and error but unfortunately time is the best healer. Its just a new tummy sorting itself out so goes away on its own. Big hugs to you, hang in there.

You could also read Happiest Baby on the Block to see if the methods described in there help?

i think the poo may be a red herring tbh... his pooing is quite normal for a breastfed baby.

what you may have though is just regular old colic! it seems to hit a peak at around 7-8 weeks and it's a real bugger to get through!
woudl def second the recommendation of "the happiest baby on the block"
