Is this normal? Ds has been feeding hourly all night since midnight for the last 5 nights. Hr will be 6 weeks on Monday and was previously doing 2 - 2.5 hr stints. Could it be his 6wk growth spurt arriving early?

We were diagnosed with mild thrush on Fri and have both been prescribed the oral gel but I can't use it on us overnight as he's not going long enough between feeds :( .

He has never been one for very long gaps during the night but has been gaining 10- 11ish per week with plenty of nappies.
I'm worrying about how we will clear the thrush if I can't space him out enough to use the gel :(

Firstly congrats in your LO! It's exhausting but at six weeks old hourly feeds are pretty normal. At least they were for my two. Every stage with a newborn seems like it lasts for ever but It does get easier.
Someone else with more knowledge than me can tell you where to info on this but if you have thrush in your breast you must try and get a prescription for oral fluconazole. It's the only thing that clears it up properly and left untreated it is incredibly painful. If yours is on your nipple at the mo a single over the counter dose may do it.
For some reason many GPs won't prescribe fluconazole for thrush in the breast but there are some leaflets you can print out to wave at your GP. I'm I'll in bed at the mo or I'd do a search for you.

Hope it clears up soon and don't forget to keep enough your lo in the meantime x

Are these the lnks that you mean littleold?

Agree that feeding hourly at night is pretty normal and yes it probably is the 6 week growth spurt.

Have you tried breast compression, having LO in bed with you and feeding more often during the day? The breast compression and feeding more often in the day may help him space his feeds out at night and having him in bed with you may help you get more sleep.

There is a good article on sleep here.

Hope it passes quickly.

Mummy is there a local Bfing group where you could go and have a chat?

Think about how you are feeding him. At about the same time as this, my son went from feeding with two hour gaps to 45 minute gaps. I had previously fed him off of one breast (not fully recognising when he stopped swallowing...), and so at about 6 weeks - which my GP says is a time of growth spurts for babies - I switched to switching breasts like others recommend (on one breast until he unlatches / stops swallowing - and I also, towards the end of a feed on the one breast, gently massage it while he's on it so that he gets the most he can out of it - and then switch breasts. My son sometimes goes back and forth 3 or 4 times. With my change of approach, I quickly got him back on a two hour gap between feeds.

Sounds like a growth spurt to me. Dd did this 3 times before she hit 3 months old. Feeding every hour for almost a week but then suddenly only feeding every 4 hours.
Stick with it and best of luck.

Sounds like a growth spurt to me. I don't think they tend to arrive at the specific times suggested (e.g. 6 weeks) tbh....they just happen from time to time, and more infrequently as time goes on, in my experience.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry not to have posted sooner but my phone has kept crashing grr!! Last night was better ds did 1 3.5hr stint then woke up hourly but went back to sleep really quickly.I've been trying breast compression which does seem to help. He still has such bad trapped wind though It's distressing for him :( going to the gp this afternoon so hopefully will start to get this thrush sorted. Thank you so much for the links and the support :)
