We're still trying, even bought the breast shaped one to no avail. Due to start nursery next week - anyone else doing any better?

DD (6 months) starts nusery next week too. She will drink water (75mls today - a record), from a boots thing which is a cross between a beaker and bottle (it has a soft ish teat/nozzle and handles). We let her play with it and just kind of tip it up when she puts it in her mouth, so she gets some. She has taken a little bit of EBM from it but probably less than 1oz at a sitting, so frankly, I am very anxious about how things will go at nursery. I am just praying that either she will be ok on mostly solids & water, or that when I am not there and she has no option, she will drink more EBM at one go. EEEK! Scarey isn't it .

My ds would hardly drink anything from a bottle when he started nursery but he gradually got better. Now he'll drink 6oz. I found Playtex bottles the best.

Mine took one finally at 8 mths - avent bottle, mam teat
Just back from holiday where he refused steribottles and now is chewing not feeding from the avent/mam combi
Now back to fully breastfed...

starving worked for us too, but only for 4 hours LOL!

blueshoes · 31/12/2005 10:59

On the issue of starving, my then 4 month dd gulped down a bottle of milk after having been starved for medical reasons after her surgery. But when the hospitak gradually upped her feeds, 3 bottles later, she went back to refusing. I gave up at that point - not prepared to starve her to achieve those results. She never took a bottle again until she asked for one as a toddler and found it funny to drink out of a bottle of milk - "like a baby", now where did she get that idea??

Em32 · 03/01/2006 20:06

Nope, gave up. I've got ds aged nearly 2 to contend with as well and b/f is so convenient (well it is once you've got past the first hellish couple of months) that I'm considering taking a whole year off work so I can carry on with dd and not have to deal with the whole bottle thing. Mind you I'm lucky to have the choice......

robinia · 03/01/2006 20:13

I'm due to have a general anaesthetic in 2 weeks time and haven't been told not to feed my baby (will be 4 months). Just told that the op is 1 hour and my recovery time will be about an hour-ish so if all goes well should be able to feed ds after that.

I must, however, get the bottles/pump out and have a go at bottle-feeding just in case plans go awry. Not holding out any hope that it will be easy though as ds2 & ds3 both refused bottles and I gave up in the end.

Out of interest for those of you who starved them into it - for whatever reason - how did it work? I tried leaving it until dd was so hungry she'd go for it but she got herself in such a state I couldn't see how she would go from there to start sucking on a bottle ....

I thought I would ressurect this thread instead of starting a new one.

My dd2 was bf exclusively for 6 months, no bottles at all. Now, she's 6 months, I want my life back All I'm asking is to introduce a bottle of formula in the evening and for her to generally take a bottle if I want to go out for more than 2 hours. At the moment she screams and screams when I put the offending teat in her mouth, it is nightly 'bottle torture'. Anyone else in the same boat? Shall I just persevere?? It's really getting me down and she looks so upset. I'm not sure I want to start fiddling with different formula's and teats etc, I'm using sma gold with avent bottles (worked with dd2).

Any pearls of wisdom?

Rodeo · 06/01/2006 11:51

Have you tried the avent magic spouts? Think that's what they're called, I put my bf boy straight on to them instead of teats and he was a little fussy at first, but he wouldn't even entertain the idea of a teat!

Rodeo · 06/01/2006 11:53

Oh and I think you can get them from 4+months. DS was around 6 months too at the time.

Has anyone else tried feeding her from a bottle? Is she any better with them?

InAHurry · 06/01/2006 13:35

Hi Rodeo,

So far it's only been me and dp trying to feed her, but I may try someone else soon! Never heard of the 'magic spout', I'll look next time I'm in Mothercare or online. Thanks x
