When I breastfed Lottie I went through a stage of feeling like I wasn't producing enough milk. I felt the same way with squidger no 2 this afternoon. She fed really well last night, slept really well and then from about 1 to about 3ish she just didn't stop. I'd lay her down for a nap after 20 min so then after 5mins or so she'd squeak to come back on. She eventually fell asleep for hours in which time I expressed, a) to see how much came off, which was loads and b) to see if I was lacking expressing might boost my supply.

What do you think - was she just not suckingling properly, was she having a growth spurt, was she trying it on and just wanting some comfort???

Also don't rememberthis with Lottie but this time round my boobs really itch as I feed mini munchkin. Normal? Is it just the milk flowing through that makes them feel itchy?

Hello TC - have been thinking about you!

I think the itching you describe sounds like letdown - totally normal.

Expressing is no sign of how much the baby's getting - although the fact you're producing lots is a good sign

Newborns wants to suck for comfort sometimes - it's one of their favourite things to do (they don't know about shopping, sex or chocolate yet ).

Definitely could be a growth spurt, she's what, 11 days old now? I would just feed her when she squeaks and don't worry about expressing. Your body fed her beautifully up till she was born and will continue to do so - if you just go with the flow and don't fret too much about it (wish someone had told me this when DS was tiny - I fretted for England then!).

Thanks Hunker. I'm not fretting, I'm not the type, but after an afternoon of nonstop feeding I did wonder if it was just one of those afternoons and not a problem or was it more that she just wasn't getting enough milk from me? I'll go with it was just one of those days, cheers

She's just making sure there's enough milk there for tomorrow - demand and supply and all that.

Are you fed up with people asking if she has a name yet?
