Settling baby after night feed

i fed DD at 1245am and winded her and she still won't settle :( she doesn't hardly ever cry which is a bonus but lays there grunting and squeaking!
I ve tried picking her up and winding her, comforting her etc but nothing works.
Any ideas as to how I can get her back off to the land of nod quickly and well???

I have lights low, no talking or eye contact etc.
She sounds like she is settles then as soon as i think she is ok she wakes up again!sometimes can take hours to get her settled again then i get half hour- hr before next feed!

I'm shattered!! :(

Ha me too!! I also just fed my son at 12:45, put him down 'asleep' about 1:15 and I am just listening to him grunt and squirm. Am going to leave him a bit longer as he might settle himself. What happens if you just leave her?

Have you tried a dummy at this stage? I have found that this sometimes tips him over the edge of gruntiness into sleep after a few sucks (it invariably drops out of his mouth after a few mins or I pull it out when he's asleep).

PS I also find if I have him on my chest a bit longer until he is more deeply asleep he sometimes doesn't wake when I put him down.

DS does that, I have started to leave him and he usually falls asleep on his own but it can take about ten minutes of grunting and sighing. (Then he does a poo a little while later and I have to change him but that's a whole other moan!)

How old is dd? If not crying I would leave her, she may just settle herself.

CrazyAlien06 · 04/11/2011 06:44

She is 5 weeks old.she settled herself in the end but she is so noisy!!!
I have hardly had any sleep last night and she only fed twice!
I know she d sleep better in her cot as she likes sleeping with arms and legs out wide which she can't do in basket but the SIDS guidelines scare me from doing it :(
I have a small 2 bed house and the rooms are right next to each other.I can hear the dog giving herself a wash in the middle of the night where she sleeps at top of the stairs!

Oh and haven't tried a dummy as had no need so far as she never cries/moans during the day. But may try it at night.

And if I hear another friend telling me their baby is sleeping through the night already im going to scream!
All I'm asking Father Christmas for is one nights full sleep!!

You could try white noise. We played a jungle or water sound (from downloaded app) and it used to help settle dd. also helped you sleep too!

CrazyAlien06 · 04/11/2011 07:17

Yeah I've tried that too but forgot last night :( she is now sound asleep spread out on the bed next to me!
So all she requires is a king size Bed!-as simple as that lol

You have my sympathy too. My DD is 7.5mo and I've learned her habits that I know a second bf an hour after she wakes put her into dream land. She just stays awake scratching the mattress or kicking the cot otherwise! Luckily there is only one night feed. So it does improve after a while if it's only knowing your LO better.

had this all last night with ds2, grunts and moans. argh! and it's pouring with rain here so gonna be stuck in with an active 3 year old. roll on 7pm when at least one of them goes to bed!
