DD is 13 months. Was still nursing 3 or 4 times a day most days. About 6 weeks ago I had my first period since DD was born, and around the time I started I noticed my milk supply drop (which I think is normal?) and then pick up again. About 3 weeks ago my supply dropped again, but I haven't had another period & it hasn't picked back up. (I'm not pregnant - I've taken several pregnancy tests and anyway I nursed DS when I was pregnant with DD and I do not remember these problems).
Any ideas? I would like to keep bfing through the winter, but at the moment I think she's only getting one decent feed first thing in the morning, although she keeps trying throughout the day. I feel sorry for her when I offer her a cup of milk instead and she just shakes her head "no" :(

Have you tried feugreek? www.increasebreastmilk.co.uk/FAQs/

i meant fenugreek

MigGril · 04/11/2011 14:24

could it be something else like teething or her coming down with something?

cosmicdust · 04/11/2011 19:58

thanks! I'll look into fenugreek. We have all had a cold this week, so maybe that's what's going on.

Could it be a nursing strike?

Teething or illness might be a factor.

DS had Hand foot and mouth disease and gave up at 15 months. Sore throat?

So she's still actively trying to feed but you think there's nothing there? Or she's acting dissatisfied with the bf?

With my first I noticed that abt 12m the milk changed too...we were only feeding 2x a day tho...but my breasts seemed far more 'empty' then they had ever before. I did a bit of reading and found that around 12m the milk changes a bit again (like it does at 6m) because the child does not need the same sorts of nutrients (because they should be getting more nutrients from solids). This is perhaps the case with you too? Has she been eating far more solids? Their dependency on the bf as a source of 'food' goes down some at this point (if they are eating more solids) and it becomes a healthy yummy drink for them rather than a meal.
