Expressing at work and sterilising

I've just gone back to work, DD is 8.5months and I am expressing in the day at work.
Yesterday, my first day back, she had two feeds from me before I left (4am and 6.30am) and I ran back from the train to do her bedtime feed, but I won't always be able to do the last feed.
I pumped three times at work and got a total of 450ml which I was quite pleased about.
But I don't know if I should be sterilising the pump between goes.
Yesterday I just put the bits back in a zip-lock bag and used them again.
I want to minimise the faff at work and thought a rinse through with boiling water from the kettle would be enough in the day but I'm told I'm not allowed a kettle at work (some rule about electrics being safety tested).
So the only real option is cold water sterilising, if its really necessary.
What would you do?

Nice pumping there! I simply rinsed the pump between uses. I can't remember how I formed the impression that this was OK, but I would imagine it was on Kellymom - have you checked it out?

Have you not got any hot water in the toilets where you wash your hands? You don't need to sterilise as breastmilk is self-sterilising, but it would be a good idea to rinse in hot water to help prevent a build up of fats. Give it a good clean when you get home with soap and hot water too.

I didn?t used to rinse or sterilise my pump, just sealed it back up in the bag.

I just sealed up my pump and put it in the fridge. If the fridge is good enough for the milk then the pump will be fine until you get home and wash it with hot soapy water. I never sterilised my pump even when expressing at home. Bottles and bits all went through the dishwasher top shelf.

Yes, rinse the pump and put it in the fridge. Sterilise or put through your dishwasher when you get home. That will be fine.

Lovely, thank you.
I'll rinse it all out with hot water and put it in the fridge. I am pumping in the first aid room at work so it has a sink, soap, towels ect in it.

BTW, I meant I won't always be able to do the bedtime feed, not that I won't always be able to run from the train - that just makes me sound lazy!

Keep it in a bag if you're going to put it in the fridge. IME, work fridges are usually minging Smile

I bought small ziplok bags just big ebough for the funnelly bits and stored it inside my coolbag in the fridge. I didn't rinse it normally, but occasionally used some Medela wipes that I bought if I thought it needed it between my 2 pumping sessions.

good luck!
