Hi, my friend had her 1st baby last week and is struggling to bf, problems with latch etc.

I am going to see her today for 1st time and wondered if anyone could recommend or link to some good sources of info for her to look at? I thought of la leche league, any others? Thanks so much, any advice appreciated Smile

There is the Breast Feeding Network, the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers, NCT and of course the good old NHS - all have information on there websites and at least the first 3 also have help lines that you can phone for advice. Hopefully from there you can get in touch with a local breast feeding expert who might be able to visit and assist if necessary.

Make sure your friend knows that she is entitled to support and to keep asking until she gets it!

Brilliant thanks! Helplines are a good idea. Midwife was helpful (as opposed to hospital) apparently but obviously can't just keep coming round to help all the time. Thanks again

No problem! Dont be afraid to ask the midwife though....they may be too busy but then maybe they wont be. If your friend found someone really helpful then hang on to there phone number and keep asking....they can always say no.

Also there are lots of real experts on here so if there are specific questions and problems then they may well be able to help too.

Hope it goes well and your friend gets the BF established!

Your friend can also look at Dr Jack Newman's website where there are video clips of what a good latch should look like.

Also worth a try is the biological nurturing website - you semi recline and allow the baby to latch on by himself using his feeding reflexes. It's also called laid back breastfeeding.

Great ideas thanks. Feel better than going round with just yet another present for the baby now. (have mini eclairs for mum Wink ). Hope she will get enough support from us all to work it out. Told her not to be afraid to ask everyone for help!

Mini eclairs sound perfect!

Thanks for your help earlier, she seems more positive and we had a good chat. The eclairs went down well, never found a situation yet that cake didn't help Grin
