DD has dramatically severed her feed time

Hi all, I'm always worrying about something!

My 5wo ebf DD has severed her feed time to about a 5th. She used to spend about 1.5 to 2 hours total faffing about (with a couple of short breaks). Now she only spends about 10-15 minutes feeding, another 10 minutes 'pretending' to feed and then that's it. I worry that she's not eating as much as she was and she's going to waste away.

Or is it just that we're both better at it now and the whole process is more efficient?

marking my place as this has sort of happened with me and DS2 although we do both have thrush so this is also making feeding a bit unusual....

I suspect that she is just getting much more efficient! If it makes you feel any better, I'm now BF my 3rd baby - and NONE of my babies have ever fed for more than 10mins at a time (one boob only, I rarely do both sides unless its one of those 'eat all evening' feeding frenzies!). If you're worried about her milk intake, take her every other week to be weighed to check she's putting on weight ok, & congratulate yourself on the fact that she (& you!) are becoming expert breastfeeders!!

Oh, & enjoy it whilst it lasts....babies have a habit of getting into a little routine for a few weeks, then just as you get used to it they turn it all on its head & do something totally different!

Yes they change all the time, just as you think you are able to predict their feeds or nappies or sleep or favourite toys - All Change!

She is probably getting bigger therefore bigger stomach and also getting stronger so has a more efficient suck. And maybe feeling a little more settled in this new environment that she is laying off some comfort feeding to examine the world.

Sorry to disagree with you icravecheese but the red book says babies should not be weighed more than once a month, as growth goes in fits and starts so more frequent weighing could be more alarming than reassuring.

Things to watch are you are getting wet and poo nappies, she has content alert periods, as well as weight gain.
