BF & teeth

Hmm

DS is 6 months and bottom teetch are just coming through. They're like needles. He's caught me a couple of times towards the end of a feed when he starts to play. But it's made me wonder what happens when top teeth come through? Bottom teeth are obv covered by tongue for most of the time...but top ones - how does it work?

I'm thoroughly enjoying still feeding him, but wonder if teeth will signal the beginning of the end?

Both of mine learned not to let them get int he way very quickly. If there is any experimental biting, I would unlatch straight away and say 'no' and turn away. Don't make it funny or fun. I think it's your best chnce of it not turning into a habit.

Both mine had a mouth full before they stoppped feeding. In fact DS hasn't yet.

I'm still breastfeeding an 18 month old with LOTS of teeth. He's gone through various bitey phases, one particular one at 8 months that almost made me give up. The trick I found is I learnt to preempt the bite and take him off; he was most likely to bite when he was tires and was no longer putting any huge effort into feeding. Invest in some Lansinoh to get you past the bitey phases. If he did bite down hard I shoved my finger right in and quickly to stop him biting hard.

They can definitely be careful of their teeth when they want to - a few firm 'no's are usually required.

They also become considerably less sharp as they grow.

I have never felt DDs top teeth unless she has decided to actually bite (this has only happened a couple of times when she was in the middle of her worst teething stage and the top ones had only just come through)

Somehow, they just sit against the skin, rather than pushing into it.
