Moving from EBM to formula

My DS is just over two weeks old, and has just come out of the neonatal ward having been born at 34 weeks. He had initial problems with feeding, and took 12 days to wake up, and realise that he needed to suck! Most of his food during this time went down a tube directly to his stomach. During this time, I have tried to breast feed him, with lots of support from the neonatal nurses and midwives, but he just wasn't getting it, and has been much happier since we moved across to bottles. I was already expressing my milk to ensure I would have a good enough supply when he got the hang of it, so he has been having EBM for every feed, whether from a bottle or down his tube. Now we are home, I am finding it difficult to keep my supply up for his increasing demands by expressing, and don't want to try breast feeding again, since it took so long to encourage him to take the bottle. A couple of friends have said that their babies have had constipation as a result of moving over to formula immediately, so I was wondering if there is a way of gradually moving across. Obviously I understand that if I decrease the amount of times in a day I express, the supply will die out, but can I mix the formula with breast milk in a bottle, or is it best to alternate feeds? Anyone with any similar experiences would be welcome.

There will be someone along in a minute who will be able to give you lots of advice i'm sure.

However, I know that alot of people feed formula at night and BM during the day so there is nothing wrong with mixing the 2. Maybe you could go over gradually that way.
