Regular bottles

Ds is five months. And we still don't have a regular feeding routine. He eats his 6pm bottle and his dream feed at 11 fine. Then he wakes for another one between 4&5:30 am. After that, it's hit and miss. We usually try give him a "breakfast" bottle about 3-4 hours after whatever time he fed at but he often Wong eat that one which then has everything off kilter. A few weeks ago I did try reducing the 4am feed in the basus that he would then wake up hungry at 7 but he won't settle if I dont feed him as much as he likes in the night.

I worry that a) he is not getting sufficient structure to feeds to may be either too hungry or too full at various times and b) that this contributes to lack of routine during the day.

Two other points that may be relevant: he wakes up at different times in the morning and so goes for naps at different times too. Also, he is often constipated and the bad eating is very obviously linked to that. So once he poos, things get easier again.

Any thoughts? Am I doing it all wrong? Should
I just get tougher and implement a strict 7,10,1400,18:00 feeding schedule?

Is this your first?

My Ds didn't have any sort of feeding or sleeping routine until we weaned him and he was able to eat around 3 meals a day (6-7 months). This was not for want of trying! Then a routine just fell into place and life got much easier.

Hang in and you'll get there soon - and don't worry. DS 2 is now 4months old and we are nowhere near a routine but this time around I am just going with him as I know it will be ok soon.

Good luck

PS DS1 is now amazing at sleeping and eating. I can't remember the last time he woke at night and he's only 20 months old.

Thanks. Yes, pfb! Grin

I dont mind, but I do worry about him - he's not a crier so I have no idea if actually he is starving! We have started him on some baby rice in last few days and he is loving it so perhaps it is just a case of getting up to proper food three times daily and things will improve!
