I expressed with the avent double pump when I couldn't breastfeeding DS, it was expensive but very efficient, cut the time to half and I think the fact that it sucks from both breasts also enhances your production.
Then again, if it's not a long term commitment, you may find the price prohibitive, the new model is £239 on amazon at the moment, so quite a big investment...

"couldn't breastfeeding", honestly, where has my English gone? Blush

Hi,
I have used the medela swing pump with both my DCs. It was about £80 and I've had to replace one of the parts (which cost about £5) but over the course of 3 years it's been a really good investment.

I ended up in hospital after dd was born and my mum did a lot if research into pumps before buying me the spectra from amazon. It was fab and I've recommended it on here before and got a lovely pm thanking me for doing so. It was great and a fab price. Hth

I've got a medela swing but I don't think it's great-you can buy 5 different sizes of breastshield but I still can't get one to fit my left boob, and so it sucks breast tissue into the funnel. Maybe that's just me but it's annoying as I want to express but I also don't want to damage my breast tissue.

I bought the Spectra Anawiz double electric as well which is great - quiet and efficient. Also fairly decent price - I think mine was about £55 3 years ago.

I also have the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature handpump which TBH I prefer and gets more milk out but obviously means you are not hands-free!

I bought and returned the Medela - it was as expensive as the Spectra but leaked, got nothing out and was noisy as well. Total waste of money. Luckily as it leaked I took it back for a refund as not fit for purpose.

Get yourself an old bra and cut slits in it for your nipples if you do get an electric pump - I did this and now have an ultra-fashionable and sexy pumping bra meaning I can be hands-free which is good!

I have a Medela swing and think its great. I use the soft fit breast shield that came with it and it works grand. I do have plently of milk and when expressing can get 4oz in 5 to 10 mins. I also like the fact that it will run on batteries as well as mains.

The electric Avent pump did us well. When I melted one part of it in the microwave sterilizer (not enough water!), I had a part delivered in 24 hours without any fuss. Super smashing.
