Wildly different boob production, expressing for NICU twins. HELP!

Hello breast experts, please help me!
I've been expressing for the past 6 weeks for my twins who are still in NICU having been born 10 weeks early. Things got off to a bit of a shaky start due to horrible labour/recovery etc but with a Domperidone prescription my supply seems to be building up. They are now also learning to both breast and bottle feed (breast with a shield, bottle because they also take formula/fortified milk etc for medical reasons) and seem to be doing well at both.
However, in the past week or so I've noticed a real difference in milk output between my boobs when expressing (I double pump) - one is both much slower to produce milk and produces much less. This evening's pump produced around 90ml in one, and 40ml in the other.
When I feed the twins I try and swop them over so it's not that one is a much more efficient feeder than the other, and I don't always feed from the same side first. So why is it happening, and how do I solve it, as I'd like to get to the point of being able to simultaneously feed both at once when they're home??

Not got a lot of advice but firstly well done you! Sterling effort! Fwiw my left one never did catch up with the right one. I expressed and mixed fed my twins for 7 weeks but things got v complicated with them both having severe reflux. I think feeding them both at the same time comes much later when they have better head control.

No advice Peeling but wanted to say a huge well done for getting so far. My twins were born at 31 weeks, I managed to express for four weeks, couldn't get supply up even with Domperidone. Hope you all manage to get home soon x

Could it be the angle? Ie, are you left-handed or right-handed? I find I'm worse at getting milk from the right breast because I can't seem to hold the pump as accurately on that side (I'm right-handed and find it more comfortable reaching across to my left breast). Maybe it's a silly idea, just seems to be very critical in my case. Well done though and good luck!

Hello Peeling

I had my twins 6 weeks early and from birth was expressing/breastfeeding. i now express into bottles, but also had the imbalanced boobs. Still do actually but have learned to manage it, which is easier with expressing.

The way I even out mine is to express until both breasts are empty or seem so, then stop pumping on the good side and pump an extra 5mins on the bad side, even though nothing comes out. Also, show favouritism to the bad boob when bfeeding.

Dont forget breast massage whilst expressing, massage from armpit towards nipple area, you will see extra spurts coming through.

Dont worry though, the midwives assured me most women have a 'good' and 'bad' breast!

Another one dropping in to say well done you. i've just finished 9 weeks of expressing afyter dd arrived 13 weeks early and it was tough tough work. fwiw i definitely found a difference between boobs - and was told this is totally normal. makes things much more complicated for feeding twins though. anyway good luck!
