Do I need to feed him more?

I am slightly concerned about DS he is number 4 DC. He is 12 weeks old, and for the last 4 nights has slept through from 8pm until 7am when I have lifted him into bed to feed him. He stays asleep until 9.30am. At this point I can managed to to get him to take a small feed.

He then wakes slowly (takes his time!!!). He will then be awake till about 12ish when he will take what I consider to be his first proper feed (long) feed. He will then sleep until about 2pm. After this he is awake till bedtime and will snack every 2 hours and only take a long feed before he goes to bed after his bath. He is not a big baby and has always slept will. I am just concerned that he is getting enough milk. When he is awake he is very alert laughing and gurgling.

Its just I have never had this, the other 3 always wanted feed through the night. Also when he was about 6 weeks the HV told me his weight gain in one week had been rubbish and I needed to wake him more at night. Although I have tried to put this to back of my mind it still niggles me. I did have re-weighed last week and he was 11lb 13oz and is following the just below the 25th centile.

He is EBF and when i do try to feed him when he doesn't want he just refuses. Turns his head, closes his mouth and gets distressed. Even this morning when I tried to get him to take more at 7am he wouldn't just locked his mouth shut and went back to sleep!!!.

If he is gaining then I would think it is OK...but I am no expert. My two eat loads....only the first couple of days was the 2nd one sleepy and I did dream feed him. Now he wakes to feed.

If he's tracking his centile line then he's fine no need to wake him. Healty BF baby's should only be weighted once every four week's they shouldn't look at the weight gain over one week to make any kind of jugment. sounds like he's just a good sleeper. Luckly you.

Agree, if he's following some kind of curve and has alert happy periods, he sounds like he's getting what he needs. I always try and offer the next breast when ds comes off (even if its the one he already had first iyswim) and accept that when he turns away he's done.

It must be strange if he's so different to what you are used to with the others but they change so much, he may start waking for milk later (4 months is common for this).

Did you post before after a 1oz weight gain the week after a huge one?

DD3 was like this, roughly feeding every 4 hours and sleeping lots inbetween.
I wouldn't wake him in the night if he gets distressed, he knows how much he needs and as long as you are nearby he will want your milk if he is hungry.
If he is alert during the day and a happy baby then he is probably getting enough from your milk. he is feeding often during the day so is getting a lot from you.

Thanks for the responses much appreciated.
Yes Debs that was me, I have had him weighed once since then and saw a different midwife who was more than happy with him. It seems that I can't stop worrying Sad. He is such a lovely little baby and I just want to enjoy him.
Again thanks for your responses.

Well, he's tracking his centile - all seems perfect - what a brilliant one to have as a 4th DC!

It may all change so enjoy the sleep :)

4 children - sounds like a very happy house :)
