OVERFEEDING?

Sorry guys, cant sleep. am still upset and need to vent. So he's six months and weighs 23lbs. Is that such a bad thing? They always stop short of accusing me of overfeeding but the hint is always there ('what do you feed him?' 'how many times' have you tried vegetables?' 'well, he IS a bit long' 'Strapping young lad he is'.

For God's sake, he's 29 inches long (thay dont do lenght anymore over here) and 18 head circumference so he's big all round. So I'm just 5'2 but his dad is 6'ish that should count for something.

Am I supposed to put him on a diet? them they smile and say something about a PND score of 15. He slapped (yep slapped HV on friday and I was happy inside) and she agreed he had 'very good muscle tone.

How can he be overfed?

The happiest baby I know is 9 months old and weighs the same as my nearly 3 year old. All variations of normal.

more evidence of idiot hvs. ignore them. how the hell can you overfeed a bf baby!!!!!

You just can't overfeed a b/f baby. Yet another wonderful thing about the whole process.

Ds was big (10lb 5oz). At first they just kept telling me that I would be feeding him "all the time" and were basically saying, and not v subtly, that I wouldn't manage by just b/f him. Well, I did, and it was fine and when it came to solids, he didn't want any until he was 7 months. I just offered stuff to him every few days until he wanted it.

Please don't let them put you off as you are clearly doing the very best thing by your baby - breastmilk until he is ready for solids. I constantly remind myself that nature is a wonderful thing and health visitors, frankly, are not.

And you know what? If he weighed less, you'd STILL be wrong! I've been asked to take DS back in the New Year to be weighed again because he's gone from the 25th to the 9th centile. And yet he's happy, and healthy, and very active, and growing out of his clothes at a rate of knots. All of which I pointed out to the HV... But then again, he was exclusively BF until 26 weeks, so he obviously hasn't been getting enough to eat. I was upset at first, too, but now I'm just annoyed. Wouldn't it be nice just to be able to get our babies weighed without comments being passed?
