Have been combination feeding dd 6weeks for the last 3 weeks and was using the normal cow & gate, she has been blocked up for the last 7 days and quite uncomfortable for the last 3 days (she did have a dirty nappy this morning but the consistency was much thicker than usual) during this time she hasn't had many formula feeds but I'd like to get back to doing combination, have just bought some of the above mentioned milk and wondered if anyone had good or bad experiences with it?

Sorry havent used that. Have you tried water with a dash of fresh orange juice in it which should help with the constipation in my experience

we used cow and gate comfort for ds1. it helped with his discomfort after feeding. first week he did horrible fowl green poo's but it settled. also as it's thicker you may need a faster flow teat, it was easier to stir it rather than shake. other thing was that it was a bit of a pain when out and about. having said all that wouldn't have swapped it as helped a lot.

Can I do that at 6 weeks do you know nevercan ? She won't take water on it's own but I haven't tried the orange juice yet.

I just gave her first bottle and the teat did get blocked! It took me a while to realise why she wasn't drinking it!
Why do you say It's a pain while out and about dribbleface ?

Great to hear it helped though, I really hope it works for us :)

I gave it to mine at that age and it was fine. Make sure it only a dash of orange juice diluted in the water. Might want to make the water warm if your dc is used to milk that way Smile. Hope it helps

Thanks nevercan, will try it :)

I used this when dd2 got a bit blocked up on the normal milk. After the first day we noticed a big improvement. She was much calmer after a feed.

I never had a problem with making feeds while out and about. I did it the same way as with the stage 1 milk.

I very rarely use ready made formula

Nevercan · 25/10/2011 16:48

Let me know if it helps Smile

MrsRetchingBloodAndGuts · 28/10/2011 01:39

It has definitely helped! :) I did it for the constipation but I've noticed a big difference with her colic too!

She hasn't done any green poo yet but it is smellier! TMI sorry!

No worries glad it has chilled DC out Smile

'Comfort' milk just has added potato starch to make it flow slowly thru the teat.

No magical effect on the gut at all [hhmm]

Dartfordmummy · 28/10/2011 23:42

It hasn't got potato starch in it - who told u that Finally? It's got more of one of the proteins found in the milk which the body takes longer to digest.

My SIL found Cow and Gate Comfort hugely helpful for her dd. Can't remember what formula she started on ( maybe SMA Gold?) but her dd was very, very colicky and once she started on the C+G comfort the colic settled right down. It did give her dd the famous green poos but I think SIL wasn't bothered about the colour of the poo, once her dd was happy!

MIL however, went on about the poo every day, for weeks on end and even asked SIL if she couldn't just bf! By then her dd was 12 weeks old and SIL can't bf anyway for medical reasons. But MIL specialises in guilt-tripping.

Oh and I think SIL also found that a bit of boiled water with some brown sugar in it helpful for constipation. I think it is actually Not Allowed but apparently it worked a treat!

Dartfordmummy, here in the list of ingredients
www.boots.com/en/Cow-Gate-Comfort-first-for-comfortable-digestion-900g_21643/

Hydrolysed Whey Protein Concentrate; Vegetable Oils (including Structured Vegetable Oil); Glucose Syrup; Starch (Potato, Maize); Dietary Fibres (Galacto-Oligosaccharides, Polyfructose); Lactose; Potassium Dihydrogen

Who told you it had more casein than whey? Those milks are sold as 'hungry' milk to make the baby go longer between feeds and they are harder to digest

MrsRetchingBloodAndGuts · 29/10/2011 18:24

Well whatever it is, it can't just be the slower flow as I've had to punch through the holes in her bottles to make the milk flow faster.
I'm just happy that dd is pooing regularly and is comfortable.
