Hi there, not posted here before so hope it's the right place. And Hello!

I'm expecting my first (a little boy) on 17th Feb and I want to try andcombine breast and bottle feeding so my hubby can be involved too. I'd like to do this with expressing rather than formula but don't know where to start! As i want to express regularly I have been led to believe an electric pump would be best but can anyone recommend a good one? Also anyone know of an electric punp that has a manual attachment in case my nipples get sore as i have heard electrc ones can be pretty nasty! Basically any advice on the best way to do this would be very very much appreciated!

i used the medula electric one and it was great. i think it comes out top too in the MN product review of breast pumps.

I used the medula mini.
From Mothercare.
Just under £40.
Only used it at home.
But wasn't too noisy.
The container is more than big enough - lots of people think - couldn't buy a mini- it wouldn't be big enough - but believe me, its fine.

Medula mini - apsolutely brilliant.

Second the medula mini, DD wouldn't latch at first so I expressed for her, never had any problems with it, once milk was in could express a good 6-8ozs in 10 mins. It wasn't sore at all even when my nipples were agony.

Only thing was I got too lazy at washing/sterilising so ended up just BFing.

I liked the electric Medela. You can also hire pumps from your local NCT group (£21 a month, they're v big, heavy and noisy). If it's only for once a day or so the Medela is probably good enough.

hey thanks for all the advice! Looks like the mendela one is well thought of anyway! I ad heard it is pretty noisy - did any of you have problems with this?

Ameda lactaline - dual electronic and small. It is excellent but costs about £80. You can get one from Amber Medical - look for them on the web.

ditto on the lactaline - Mine has been used by another 3 people apart from my self (twice) and everyone raves about it - I could easily get 4 oz per breast in 5 mins with it with no discomfort at all.
