painful letdown

When I first started bf I had a painful/uncomfortable letdown. However, this went within a few weeks. Now, DS is 19wks and it's back. It's especially painful when I hear babies crying - any baby, not just DS!

Is there anything I can do about this? The throbbing is awful and usually happens when I hear a screaming baby in the supermarket!

My ds is also 19 wks- what DOB is yours, out of interest?!
My let down can be quite uncomfortable but ny sister didn't even have a let down so I would simply guess it's just the way you work! Generous!! Sorry not much help

Meant to say I can go for a couple of days where I don't even feel it whereas other days it's quite shocking.

i get painful letdowns when expressing but not when feeding [puzzled emoticon]

I don't know the answer to that. I have had asimilar experience, it varies and comes and goes as it pleases, it seems! But other babies crying can do it to me. I also got it when my friend told me her dad had died. When I am sympathetic for others etc.

Thanks. I guess it must just be my make-up! Bramblina - DS was born in the early hours of 6th August. What about yours?

He was 3pm on the 4th. Oh well still close! A lovely age. How is yours? Mine is sleeping 12 hours now which is lovely. I came on tonight as I was going to start a thread asking about reflux/posetting, maybe you will have an answer for me if I may ask? He is quite windy and with just about every feed brings up a good mouthful or more, and it's ofter quite mucousy, need I be worried? He normally goes through 2 or 3 t-shirts in a day, and I usually change my top once. We ALWAYS carry a cloth. Is this normal and I'm just being paranoid or do you have some experience of this? TIA

Hi bramblina - DS was fine until about 4 wks ago when he went through a phase of waking every hour or so. BUT, with the threat of "Santa won't come to you" he has all of a sudden started sleeping 10-12 hours at night. Strange. Although I bet I've jinxed it now

Anyway, the posseting thing. DS has ALWAYS been a sicky baby. He wears bibs constantly (tommee tippee milk feeding ones have a special roll around the neck to catch stuff - fab!) and usually goes through a few changes of clothes each day. His sick is either waterry, thick like cottage cheese or mucousy. I've seen my GP a few times and she said that as long as he seems happy and is gaining weight then it is not an issue at all. I have noticed that he is happier when he's sick more! Also, I don't burp him much these days and just let it happen naturally. I used to try to burp him for ages and 9 times out of 10 he'd burp up loads of sick.

Thanx! I've stopped burping him so quickly and it really has settled down. I was probably making it worse. My HV and GP said the same to me but it's more believeable when someone else with the same experience says it!
