bf-ing after planned section?

Hi all;

I'm due a planned section on Wednesday. (Aaaaaargh! where did the time go?) This is my 2nd, and despite having a pretty ghastly experience trying to bf my first, I'm going to give it another go.

I've heard that your milk takes longer to come in after a planned section because you never go through labour. Anybody experienced this? How much longer does it take - I think I'll find it easier if I know how long I have to hold on for before supply kicks in.

Thanks all

My DS1 was an elective section. He came on Wednesday, my milk started coming in on Sunday. But I think it would have been faster if he'd been latching well early on.

How close to your due date is your section booked? (The later the better, is my opinion - bigger babies sleep more and are easier to feed etc.) Do you have good local breastfeeding support?

I had DS2 by planned section in August and did not experience any problem with the milk coming in. DS2 went to the breast almost immediately as well - sooner than DS1 (not a section but a bad labour).

I have had two planned sections and bf both of mine... with DS milk came in the next morning and with DD it took about 1 day -- she handled the initial shortage quite badly and had to be give a beaker of milk on her first night but I made sure she was latched on as uch as possible and I think that helped... god the dry sucking hurt though!!
All the best!! #A new baby for Xmas -- fab!!

Hi,
My milk came in durign the night after, the same as it did with two normal deliveries. I didn't find it any different, and the dts went straight to the breast in the recovery room. I think bfeeding is usually easier second time around, good luck!
