Who saw this? It was the 5th most annoying thing in some bloke's restaurant survey ! Along with mobile phones and bad tables and double tipping. Well thanks for the support Gordon Ramsey, you'd think a chef and father of 4 would have a vested interest in what his kids ate!

What do you expect??? This was the man who didn't want to see any of his children being born, because it would 'put him off sex' with his wife forever

bauble99 · 15/12/2005 21:05

Should have added an 'allegedly', just in case ol' Gordy's a mnetter.

flutterbeedreaminofawhitexmas · 15/12/2005 21:06

Hang on wasn't this some blokes survey and not actually Gordon Ramsey saying what he found annoying (I didn't watch the programme just read your original post)

Wordsmith · 15/12/2005 21:08

It was a survey of restaurant goers. Nothing to do with Gordon, big girl's blouse though he is (did you see he lost his taste challenge again - the only one he's beaten so far was his mum!)

Wordsmith · 15/12/2005 21:09

....and I just knew when i logged on that there'd be a thread on this.

Gordon Ramsay..... In that case...... I take some of it back. But he did make the comments about childbirth and future libido. (I believe everything I read)

k74 · 15/12/2005 21:12

Ok it was on a survey but still his programme.

And I can't honestly believe that breastfeeding in restaurant is THAT annoying to THAT many people! Not really necessary to even mention it really - just adding fuel to the fire of the anti - public brigade!

Bauble - yes I read that interview too. He also has a kitchen with a £20K cooker in his home just for him. Wifey has to make do with a cheaper kitchen elsewhere in Ramsey Towers as she can't be trusted with his expensive oven. Tosser.

I love his show but hate the way he belittles his staff.

nooka · 15/12/2005 21:45

I have always disliked Gordon Ramsey by reputation, but found myself enjoying the f word, and quite liking him too. Re the survey it was only reported on the show, and to give him his due he was not impressed, and they had someone from a breastfeeding association (can't remember which one) who was breastfeeding (and not very discretely either, IYKWIM ) oh, and they mentioned the Scotish law too. The next dislike down was children, so not a very nice or family friendly group of resteraunt users!

julienetmum · 15/12/2005 22:01

Gordon Ramsey has spoken up in favour of breastfeeding in the past. I think it was on PArkinson or Jonathan Ross where he talked about it being the best start for children in conjunction with good food later on.

teabagsandwine · 15/12/2005 22:52

on 'Room 101' Gordon said he has NEVER changed a nappy for any of his 4 children "women's work"

MrsGordonRamsay · 15/12/2005 23:21

OK girls what is the problem ?????

We have a clear division of labour, and I can spend it quicker than he can earn it.

JendleWendleBells · 16/12/2005 00:07

It was the food critic Giles Coren (with the really cute squint or is that just the telly?) presenting the survey findings and I think he tried to be very sympathetic to the kids and b/feeding issue. Apart from the "joke" about doing it in the window. (Come on now Giles .. not worthy .) But the woman from the Breastfeeding Mothers Association was feeding what looked like a toddler and was dangling for all to see. I b/fed in public all the time when DS was small including in restaurants and motorway service stations and the park and wherever. I had those great tops with the concealed openings. No one ever said anything and I wouldn't have listened to them if they did. You don't like it - you don't have to look!

Nettee · 16/12/2005 06:49

I thought the program was being quite supportive of breast feeding in public. The woman who was feeding had her say and no one argued with her. And how often do we see breast feeding on the TV - hardly ever. We need more people like Gordon brave enough to have this on their programs in order to normalise bf.

k74 · 16/12/2005 07:49

Nooka I agree - most people feed a lot more discreetly than the lady featured and if you feed discreetly then most of the time, people don't notice what you are doing.

Although I did say to my dh 'IS that what I look like when I am feeding!?'

And yes breastfeeding was shown on telly but as a controversial, anti- polite society issue in the same league as using a mobile phone at the table. It did say breastfeeding is good for babies but basically that people don't want to see it.

Charming, in my opinion.

[bauble - no he did say that about not wanting to be at the birth because it would put him off oral sex for life. nice]

expatinscotland · 16/12/2005 09:22

I saw it! Thankfully I live in Scotland.

He didn't want to see his kids behing born?

Eh? DH was there for every minute. I was the one who didn't look!

expatinscotland · 16/12/2005 09:23

i'm amazed at how bf'ing is demonised but public intoxication isn't.

kiskidee · 16/12/2005 11:30

here, here epis

crunchie · 16/12/2005 11:45

about the not at the birth thing, well I read an interview with his wife in Grazia - she is their food writer - and she said she didn't really want him there. It was a joint descision and it wasn't about being put off sex, it was the way he couldn't have been able to support her without getting a bit hyper - so SHE didn't want him there either.

She also said that YES he hasn't changed a nappy, BUT again she has hardly let him as he would make such a HASH of it.

The two kitchens is also true, BUT his is for work. Basically so he doesn't have to work at weekends and stuff he has a professional kitchen at home to work in.

She bans him from her kitchen and from interferring when she is cooking at home.

So much as he admits he has said this stuff, the full story is a little different. He gets the headlines and comment can/do get taken a little out of contxt. I think he is probably a good dad, certainly seems to be on fword, I like him more after seeing on that, than before.

nooka · 16/12/2005 12:32

I think Giles Coren is cute too!

Cratchit · 16/12/2005 22:09

Saw Mrs Ramsay being iv'd about Gordon and babes and birth on Richard and Judy... she wasn't bothered that he wasn't at the births, she defended him and said if he didn't want to be there, then it was better he wasn't, she preferred getting on with it by herself... It takes all sorts I guess...Though he probably paid for her to go to the Portland...

hercules · 16/12/2005 22:12

Gosh, jendle, bf a toddler whatever next?
