5 month old not interested in feeding

Can anybody suggest what could be going on. My 5 month old ds is refusing his feeds. (he is bottle fed) Today I have only managed to get 11 ounces down him and that has been a big struggle. He has never been that fond of drinking his milk but I am now starting to worry. Should I just go along with it and see if his appetite improves or should I start to wean him (was hoping to start weaning at 6 months earliest)in the hope that solid food is more tasty than milk.

wools, mine has gone from 7:30 in the evening to waking up at 6:30 in the morning and he still isn't hungry when he first wakes up. I think it's partly an association of feeding with going to sleep (very naughty I know, but if he won't feed unless he's tired, what am I to do?!)

I don't try and feed him now until he starts being grumpy (don't go as far as the screaming stage) and then generally he won't take the milk unless he's in his room, in sleeping bag and with sleep imminent. C'est la vie.

Found - sorry to hear ds is giving you grief at night, does he not understand little boys have to be sympathetic when their mummies go back to work?

Inameeting, yes am doing the 4 hour thing. If I didn't I get a feeling that he would be quite happy to go the whole day long without any milk - it's the only way I can keep some sort of routine. Agree with you Tribpot that the bottle is a sleep association thing with my ds as well but at the moment I'm not too bothered just so long as he drinks it at some point. Trouble, I'm sure you're right - it's just a phase - hopefully he will sort himself out.

Hello,
we are in the same situation. Our LO is 5 months old and has suddenly reduced her feed over the last couple of days. But she does have some congestion. Otherwise very active. She too is bottle fed and is being fussy at the bottle currently . So we are feeding her warm milk little and often (1-3 oz what ever she drinks every 30 - 45 minutes during her wake time) which seems to work to an extent. This was the advice given by the GP. In addition to small feeds we use saline nasal sprays and take her to thw bathroom so she can inhale some steam (also GP advised). If your baby has nasal or throat congestion it could impact feeding. Hope it helps.
