IBCLCs changing - not having to adhere to WHO code - have your say (URGENT)!

Absolutely bizarre. Those of you who follow this stuff may have seen it elsewhere but basically IBCLCs are to be no longer required to follow the WHO code!

There's a chance for you to have your say... up to the 7th September so I'd urge you to do so now...

Where? Is it somewhere in the 'code of professional' conduct bit? I can't comment until I've seen what they say and why.

The difference seems to be that the current Code of Ethics states

"24. IBCLCs must adhere to those provisions of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes and subsequent resolutions which pertain to health workers. "

whereas the proposed Code of Professional Conduct just states in the preamble that

"IBLCE encourages IBCLCs to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct as outlined in [...] World Health Organization?s International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes "

[emphasis is mine in both cases]

So it does read as a softening of their position, although I don't know whether that's intentional.

Done. I can't believe they would seriously think of removing the requirement to adhere to the Code. That way madness lies....
