Sore Nipples - which cream do you recommend?

I am about to have baby No. 2 and not quite sure if this is the right section for my query. I suffered from really sore nipples when breastfeeding ds (not that long ago it seems) and just wondered which cream anyone recommends? Think I used some camomile cream before but remember that some people really loved another product and I can't remember the name. Good thing was you did not have to wash it off before next feed. Any ideas???

kamillosan but your own breast milk is even better (and you don't have to wash it off, either).

Lansinoh - expensive but does the trick

SnowQueenVictoria · 05/12/2005 14:43

I used the palmers (cocoa butter people) brand.

I liked lasinoh too, but also found boots own brand lanolin cream (rather than just the moisturising nipple cream) good.

Also, get mother's mates gel pads (can get them in Boots as well). Expensive but sooooooooooo worth it! Stick em in fridge, then put on after a feed, cooling but also promote skin healing. Swear by them. HTH

Do they still sell Rotosept? It came in an aerosol can and you sprayed it on prior to feeding and it acted a bit like a 'protective skin/film' It worked and was given to me by the nurses in SCBU, but this was 20 years ago! .
I have never seen it in the chemist although I was told at the time you could buy it. Anyone else heard of it?

Lanisoh, don't have to wash it off and keeps nipples moist, couldn't have lived without mine

You know, I am sure, BL, that no cream on earth will 'cure' or avoid sore nipples if the baby is not on in a way that doesn't damage the skin.....?

Lansinoh. Worked brilliantly for me after dreadful problems. Nothing else came close. My baby was correctly positioned, btw.

Breast milk did not work at all ime

another vote for jelonet and lansinoh. Also grated carrot is good, releases the vitamins and is soothing.

We3BungliesOfMumsnetTowers · 05/12/2005 15:44

Sorry girls I know sore nipples is no laughing matter, but having just read about grated carrot it remined me that a 'nurse' at the hosp. told me it was good for thrush!
Honestly this is true, she said just peel it, and put it in the freezebox of your freezer for 5 minutes. Looking puzzled I asked her if it really did work and cure the thrush, and she said 'good grief, no, but it is very soothing'
Sorry but earlier post from louli reminded me and I felt that I should share this peice of useless advice with you.
