tandem feeding 2y-old and new baby

Hi! I am due on December 9th and have a 2y-old son who is still breastfeeding. I thought during this pregnancy I would be able to wean him, or that he would self-wean, but he is still as interested as before. Weaning him seemed like a mean thing to do... . He drinks twice a day: at waking up, and at bedtime. I now want to start tandem feeding him and little one, but have no idea how to do this. Who's supposed to go first? Or can you feed at same time?? Any advice??? I heard it is a great thing to let the older drinker drink away the biggest pressure (esp. when milk has just come in), but would there be enough left for the baby????

thoroughly enjoyed breastfeeding my little one but had never even thought about the possibilities of tandem breastfeeding
you ladies are amazing

My milk dried up in my last two pregnancies at around 4 months but my 'babies' were quite old and not taking much milk. They still carried on 'feeding' on an empty breast though. Definately no problem doing it when pregnant.

yes, my milk dried up for while in the first trimester too - dd just persisted...

Hi-ya all! I've been part of the tandem-mamas for 5 days now. I had my ds2 last Friday (16/12) and ds1 and ds2 have been tandemfeeding since.
I was amazed at how willing ds1 was to share with his little brother. He is carefully stroking his hands, and hair, and is not even jealous when ds2 has the 'norks' to himself (says:" thomas dluh-dluh", dluh-dluh being our "secret language" for a nice drink).
It does make me feel like superwoman to have them drink at the same time, though it is taking me some fantasy and improvisation talents to find the optimal position . Have tried ds1 on my lap, and ds2 on his lap with them facing eachother, which ds1 enjoyed a lot, as he could see the little moves his brother makes.. Also tried ds2 across and ds2 sitting next to me (more or less footbal grip I guess), which I thought was less nice, as it felt like ds2 was not as much included. Any other advice on nice positions? (LOL)

Congratulations honneybunny! Didn't do too much actual feeding at the same time but did try sitting just feeding baby as normal and child would just stand in front of me and feed. Depends on height of child of course as mine were a bit older than yours. You may find that your 2 year old slows down a bit after the intial stage of getting to know his new brother. Glad its all working out so far

Honneybunny - position 1 sounds LOVELY. How snuggly that must feel.
