DD is 9 weeks old and ebf. She sleeps 10pm ish til 3am ish and then feeds again at 6am ish but doesn't settle again for hours and I'm so tired and have a 3 yr old to look after and no childcare from next month in 40 degree heat (we live abroad). Getting a bit desperate for DD to drop a feed so thinking of trying to fill her up with formula tonight and see if she'll sleep longer.
Don't know why I'm posting really...just needed to vent. I know you'll all tell me it's pointless and she'll wake anyway and I'll have boobs like over ripre melons.
sigh.

pipoca sounds like a good plan. Just to give you hope, all my children have slept all night on just breast milk. Your dd is still very tiny and she will get there eventually :)

thanks twinkle :) it was worse with DS, he used to wake for a feed at 2am and then scream and scream and scream til the next feed at 5ish, then scream a bit more and then pass out. Did that from about 4 weeks til 14 weeks. and he was formula fed.

pipoca as I've mentioned, my first son also slept brilliantly from 3 months old on only BM :) And she sounds like even at such a young age that she'll be a good sleeper. Hang in there :)

Tiktok I totally agree re the term "virgin gut". And everything else you say (as always LOL)

twinkle your personal story underlines it perfectly :)

pipoca hang on in there! My nearly-9wo decided last night that our lovely night feeding routine was boring, and has had me up every fifty minutes since 12.45, so I share a little bit of your pain (am praying it's a one off).
organiccarrotcake sorry to hear about your BIL, and thanks for your response. TBH at any other time in my life, I'd probably agree re: the word risk. But I think I'm feeling the full cumulative effect of all the well-meaning leaflets on SIDS, immunisations, breastfeeding, etc etc ad nauseum and all the possible ways I am going to either inadvertently cause my child some damage or fuck up his life. And it's entirely possible that this is tinged with sleeplessness and a little bit of PND, so not the best time to wade into the talkboards!
However, I do still think that the article I linked to from Kellymom is ridiculous. To talk about the risks and only discuss her own child (who is fine), and some other child who had a serious reaction to formula is really worthy of a Bad Science mention.
But other good points about gut flora, I get it. thanks!
Now, how to remind this child about sleeping.....

3 or 4 hours between feeds sounds like quite a lot to me - maybe if you feed her more frequently in the day she will need less at night?

I've tried that Rita, makes no difference, in fact makes it worse as she's just windier than ever so takes ages to settle.
