Formula - is the milk safe for baby to drink?

I've done things differently today and not sure if I've done it right and whether the milk is safe.

I usually make up feeds for my 24 week old baby in the morning and cool the bottles by running under cold tap for 5-10 mins and then putting them in the fridge. This morning, I decided to put bottles in a bowl of cold water with a few ice cubes. I had intended to leave it for about 5-10mins but I left the bowl and forgot about it and returned about 30-40 mins later. The milk had cooled and I put it straight in the fridge, but is 30-40 mins too long to have left it out of the fridge for? The tin says 'cool quickly' but I've always been unclear about how long 'quick' actually is so I may be fussing over nothing but wanted to hear other opinions.

Thanks

There's nothing official I can quote you, but all that sounds fine to me - just using common sense! The bowl of water you had the bottles in was cold, anyway. The milk will not go off in those conditions in that short time.

Also your baby is beyond the newborn stage and so less vulnerable.

I think it should be fine. It will have been kept cool by the water.

You should technically make the bottles up fresh, but if making them up in advance this is the safest method and I think you should be fine.

Thanks for your replies. Puts my mind at rest. I know the official guidelines say you shouldn't make in advance but it's just not practical.
