When to stop giving a bottle ?

What age should I stop giving a bottle to my lo, GFords book says that after the age of 1 should go onto a cup for milk.

My lo only has a small amount of milk from a cup in the morning and often will sign for a little milk after daytime sleep.

Also signs for milk at bedtime and still tends to drink about 7floz-8floz from a bottle.
Should I stop the milk from a bottle especially at bedtime, lo really enjoys it and sleeps well at night, also eats well during the day.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Puppy101, I'm a fan of Gina Ford, & whilst I did start giving my DD a beaker of milk at 11 mths, she did prefer drinking from a bottle. I did BF her a long time, just for morning & evening, but now, age 29 mths, she still has a bottle of milk & has a cuddle whilst Dh reads her stories

If you can get DD to have a beaker/cup, that's great, but if not, & they do seem to get a comfort from it, I would continue. They are small for such a short time..

However, make sure you give her teeth a really good clean & don't put her to bed with a bottle of milk (or anything)

Probably going against all the rules, but do notice a visible relaxing in the bedtime routine.

HTH

Its recommended for 1 year because of the damage it causes to their teeth.

have you got some of those half bottle / half cup trainer bottle teet things that you can swap to and then take it from there.

Hi Nannyl, is the damage if they go to bed with it, or does it affect the teeth the same way as say sucking a thumb ?

My DD has milk in a bottle, but of course, don't want to jeopadise her teeth. I thought, as she has her teeth cleaned & NEVER goes to bed with a bottle, she'd be ok ?
