Avent Isis vs Medela breast pump

Hi all, am 34 weeks pregnant with my 4th baby and about to buy a breast pump - any opinions please on which you prefer? Previously I have used a manual Avent (and broken it!) and an electric Avent. On MN the medela comes out top but what do you think? I have some Avent bottles and a micro steam steriliser.

Thanks!

Hi Rachey, I've got the medela mini electric but had to stop using it because the noise did my head right in. Just use the cheapest manual from Boots now. It's a bit of a thumb workout but expressing is just as fast.

Hi, I used the Avent Isis first time around and the Medela Harmony the second. The Medela I found much more natural, gentle and effective at expressing. I'd definitely go with the Medela if I were to have another baby.

(Plus, my sister got arthritis in her finger from using the Avent )

Oh yes, both mine and my sisters Avents broke repeatedly, no such problem with the Medela .

Agree with Badger.

I used a medela electric pump for the first 3 or 4 months of expressing as I found it more effective, then moved on to Avent isis once my milk supply increased. I liked the Medela one as it gave me a free hand, whereas with the avent I found I had trouble holding the pump, and my breast (rather large!)

You have to try before you but really. Have you got a B/Fing support group in your area that loans out pumps, or perhaps ask a midwife or HV if they have any to try

I used an Avent Isis to express when I went back to work (and a bit before I went back) when DS was 6mo. I found it did a good job and was nicely portable in the out and about bag - I never had problems expressing though, so not sure whether an electric one would've got even more out (probably). It did make my hands ache sometimes, but I wasn't using it more than a few times a week, so it didn't matter.
